TREC competition at Balgowan - Saturday 10th September, courtesy of the Tod familly .
There will be a class for individuals and a class for pairs. All ages are very welcome, but riders under 14 must compete either as part of a pair with a competent rider over 18, or have an adult on the ground for the orienteering section.
There are three sections to TREC: orienteering, control of paces and PTV. Orienteering involves copying a map for yourself and setting off to ride it as acurately a...s possible, at the optimum speed. Speeds are between 6 and 12kph. There are manned checkpoints on route. The other two sections are on Jen's show field. The control of paces requires you to canter as slowly as you can, and walk as fast as you can without breaking pace, whilst staying within a marked corridor between 75 and 150m long. The PTV is a cross country course with other simulated obstacles found out hacking. You can miss out any obstacle without being eliminated so long as you stop to tell the judge, so it's challenge by choice. Further info can be found on Trec Scotland's website.
I will need several checkpoint and obstacle judges. All training can be given. All judges need to be able to do is tell what pace a horse is in and/or tell the time! So ideal for other halves or folk who would like to see before they try. Judges are well rewarded with free packed lunch 😄
Entries are £10 per rider. Just give me your names, either to ride or judge, or for any more information call 700590 or text 07824 166942.
